40 days and 40 nights have gone and left me still
what if I don't want to learn this lesson
what if I want to live inside of it
what if I don't want the suture to melt
what if I like to run my tongue over the thread
taste the blood from the corners of the wound?
what if I can't bear to feel my bones rattle once
more as the draft of the door closing behind you
--your wind--
shudders through me with a clack
clack clack it echoes
what if I can't stand to surrender
