Chip on Your Shoulder

An Almost Perfect Resting Place

How did the universe,

In all it’s clever design,

Manage to make me fit

Nearly perfectly in your arms?

Lying face-to-face,

Hearts beating in tandem,

Holding one another

Like it’s our last night.

Legs like 4D Tetris pieces.

(“Tetriminos”, I learned.)

Overlayed gracefully,

Almost ergonomically.

I wish there was a way

To be back there again,

But it’s too painful

To even consider.

We were so close to perfection,

It makes me feel numb.

To think of why

It can never work.

But it just wasn’t meant to be.

Because as perfect as it first seemed,

My traitorous shoulder

Is now horribly asleep.

this is magnificent. brings out so many emotions.

  • Your poetry, which speaks to the depths of human passion and desire, beautifully expresses the bittersweet sorrow of a love that was once perfect but is now lost.
