Why do I question changing seasons?

Why do I question changing seasons

if it’s all just a part of the natural cycle?

…life then death then life then death then…

leaves turn green, then brown, then green

the flowers bloom, then fade, then bloom

but when I feel the chill of change, see the path

diverged, the setting of the sun…

I want everything to stop, pause, wait

I’m not ready yet

Can it not just be summer

and always summer,

and always summer?

I have only just begun to be familiar

with this slant of sunshine,

bend in the road,

shade of your eyes…

But you tell me I have to let go, move on, part ways,

for it’s all just a part of the natural cycle

…life then death then life then death then…

heartbreak
