Celebration September
The Maiden Starts the Party

The scent of aster wafting on the breeze
Bringing with it the promise of a bountiful harvest
Trellises covered in brightly colored morning glories
A setting designed by the hand of a celestial artist
Enter upon the magical earthy scene
The devoted maiden arrives just in time
Robed in a practical gown of blue
Adorned in sapphires larger than a dime
The raven perches on her shoulder
As the white-tailed hawk circles above
She’s led forward into the peristyle by the red fox
To see her is to fall madly in love
Beware of her honor guard, the bears
For among the owls, they have extra eyes
Fairy paths lined with weeping willow
Limes stacked in a pyramid on the table by size
Virgos and Libras seated according to birthdate
Surrounded by baskets of hazelnuts
They enjoy their cheese-stuffed olives
Sitting, the Maiden takes her throne of polished walnut
Smiling, she motions for the meal to be served
Looking around at her guests, she spreads her arms
She greets them, encouraging them to remain seated
“Please enjoy this bountiful harvest from our farms”
She says to them as the trays of food are unladen
Leafy, root, and squash dishes all compete
With desserts made of apples, pears, and blackberries
Each entree with a flavor that can’t be beat
There’s plenty of apple cider to wash it all down
If you prefer, ice-cold spring water
No need to BYOB, for she supplies all
The Maiden, Autumn’s Daughter
Begins her celebration
It’s her time to shine
Regally she holds her court
Watching as her guests dine
As the leaves begin to change
Announcing the start of fall
