I hear the chicken's still long overdue

Cauliflower parmesan

Fresh cut from the garden

Taking what I have into my hands

Inflation rages, battles drawn

Life as we once knew it

Will not return for quite some time

Institutions come and gone

Who could have believed it

So much depends on one another’s grace

Civilizations come and gone

Who could have then perceived it

So much depends on plans that fade away

When we lost love

When we shunned caring

We just forgot the many simple ties

When we chose war

We chose injustice

When we catered to a never-ending lie

Arugula and peas will do

Dinner salad for the evening

Tomatoes not quite coming into bloom

The family moves closer in

We can all squeeze tight together

Soon we may be running out of room

Institutions come and gone

Who could have believed it

So much depends on one another’s grace

Civilizations come and gone

Who could have then perceived it

So much depends on plans that fade away

When we lost love

When we shunned caring

We just forgot the many simple ties

When we chose war

We chose injustice

When we catered to a never-ending lie

So it’s bright poblano soup that has been brewing

Canned black beans and chilies have to do

I hear the chicken’s still long overdue.
