Cardiac Arrest
A Poem
Colorful balloons float across a cloudy sky,
The hands that held them long departed.
The echoes of their voices die;
I stand alone and wonder why
I rest bereft upon the street,
Littered with the leavings of the past;
The people who I chanced to meet
Dancing to some silent beat
And yet I dance no more.
My feet have lost their rhythm,
Misplaced upon some distant shore,
No longer knocking on the floor
I march along and pantomime,
Remembering that fickle past,
For through the ravages of time,
I’ve lost my reason, lost my rhyme
And the balloons float up and pop
Above those clouds so far away;
Soon, the rubber pieces drop
Until my heart comes to a stop,
The beat no longer that of feet
Nor of those strangers I would meet
But of something more discreet –
One world, complete.
