The Whimsy Crab

Yes, I’m a crab.

As moody as they come.

Claws that long to nurture,

Yet will snap at some.

You might think I have no backbone,

That I’m a sucker for your lies.

I will look right through you, with my all seeing eyes.

I wear my protective armor proudly,

No enemy can pierce through.

Though my heart is soft and open only for a select few.

I treasure my beloved family,

Protecting my dear children from their very first breath.

Making sure they are content and healthy, every moment ‘til my death.

To my partner I am a loyal, you will soon discover,

Crabs are full of passion, always a devoted lover.

We are intoxicating and erotic.

Always dancing under the moonlight,

Tantalizing and exotic.

Our charm and our charisma are undoubtedly infectious,

Just one kiss, and we will leave you breathless.

Cancer children are wise beyond their years.

Finding beauty in all things,

Often found holding back tears.

You may often find us sobbing when we hear our favorite song,

We seek meaning in everything around us as we drift along.

Cancers love to worship the moon.

You might question our witchy ways.

We spend many nights sky gazing,

Then take shelter and slumber through rainy days.

We have a deep love for all of Earth’s creatures.

Choosing animals of over humans, is one of our quirky features.

Some say we have too many pets,

For our dear familiars, we have no regrets.

Cancerians are known to be natural born healers.

We will whip up a concoction for whatever ails you.

Though to ease our own pain, we are clever concealers.

As we crawl through life, we are often misunderstood.

Our words are sometimes twisted,

We may not apologize when you think we should.

Crabs are great escape artists, our shells are like shrouds.

We are content staying in our comfy homes,

Making up clever excuses to avoid crowds.

You might think our homes are messy and filled with too much clutter.

To you it may be junk, but these trinkets make our hearts flutter.

Since we have an eye for what is different and unique,

We can spend hours browsing shops for all things vintage and antique.

Cancers have a tendency to grow tired of humdrum conversation,

Talk to me about love, life, death, or your thoughts on reincarnation.

Some of us are religious, some more spiritual.

We love to share thoughts and ideas as part of our ritual.

We may bask in light that is metaphysical,

Not following a straight path, but one that is whimsical.

My faithfulness, true and caring ways, make for amazing friend.

If you ever try to hurt me, our bond will abruptly end.

There is no going back once you break my heart,

As I made this crystal clear right from the very start.

Moonchildren feel the need to connect with their roots.

They thirst for the knowledge of their ancestors,

Whom may share their attributes.

Whether it be art, music or poetry, we live to create.

We work at our own devices though,

If you give us a deadline, we are most often late.

No matter the project, you know it will be something great.

What a wonderful honor it is to be a crab’s muse,

A fantastic fire will start, if you light the right fuse.

Our moods tend to change such as the weather and phases of the moon.

One day, we’re as calm and serene as a warm summer night in June,

The next, we are intense and dramatic as a devastating monsoon.

We are humble and kind, though some say we’re lazy.

Our tendency to shift our emotions, can be misconstrued as crazy.

Wild and free, a crab you will never tame.

Our kindred spirit wanders,

For this we feel no shame.

Once you fall in love with a Cancer,

You will never be the same.
