Can One Ever Come to Contemplate Love?
An Afternoon Thought...
Love
Can one ever come to contemplate the idea that is love?
Sure, the word is thrown around in the everyday vernacular
By those who claim to “love” each other,
But how often is it that someone truly comes to know love?
Is it a scientific phenomenon that is triggered by the mutation
Of synapses within the brain? Is it the releasing of chemicals
Whenever someone does something to entice you whether with words
Or with physical actions? Or something deeper?
Maybe it has nothing to do with science we know
And more of an intermediate factor within the essence of man,
A stirring of the soul by someone other than themselves,
A force that demands them to change their ways and pursue
A life goal other than the ones that they concocted in their heads?
Is it something outside the realm of reason and logic, determined
By a force not of this world, rather instead by divine providence
Or planetary alignments outside our reach and celestial kingdoms
Revealing their wisdom to the rest of the macrocosm that is sentience
Both far and wide?
Is it not the casual interaction between ants in a colony,
But instead, the gravitational pull to the black hole designed
To tear apart the man at his seams?
Is it not the intertwining of hands at a cafe,
But rather the eclipsing of one planet before the other
So that a tertiary perspective can be yielded from the union?
Is it not the kiss on the lips between the passionate,
But rather the clashing of celestial bodies at light speed
Until the fragments are too far from one another?
Is it the “I do” at the wedding, the exchanging of rings
And the heavenly choir sings or is it instead
The desire to be there for that person through both
The ups and the downs, the shallow and the deep,
The maddening and the soothing, the gracious and the hellish,
The times of sadness and the seasons of happiness,
Until the mistress of the end time pays a visit
And takes away the one thing you aspired to never live without?
Can one ever come to contemplate love…?
