Campbell the Heroic Batcat

For Sara Wilson's Doodles and Ditties: An Unofficial Challenge

Cat by Izzy

Campbell the cat was no ordinary cat

Campbell the cat was the heroic batcat

He swung through trees this way and that

Wait, no, that wasn't Campbell the batcat

-

No not at all, that was Tarzan, not Campbell

Tarzan was a monkey, and as fast as a gazelle

He had no whiskers or fur on his head, oh well

Best friends to heroic batcat, young Campbell

-

Campbell the cat was also friends with Ollie

Ollie was an owl, not a batcat, wise old Ollie

Ollie would sit and think, think and sit constantly

About the weather, cheese and his favourite dolly

-

One fine day when the sun was just peeping out

Campbell the heroic batcat was roaming about

Looking for friends in need, he heard a loud shout

It was Ollie who gave the shout, sporting a pout

-

“What was this fuss all about?” Campbell cat asked

“It's that naughty mushroom guy, since you asked!”

“Mushroom guy from over the hill?” Campbell asked

“What has he done to make you pout?” he further asked

-

“He has stolen my cheese, and now I'm cheeseless!

What's more, he's running around causing a mess!”

Campbell the batcat frowned at the cheesy mess

“Don't worry Ollie, I'll catch him so you're not cheeseless!”

-

Tarzan the monkey, because he's a monkey remember,

Swung into action like a penguin dancing in December

Imagine that! His advice was to make Mushroom surrender

Campbell though wasn't convinced he would surrender

-

His plan was to chase the crumbs and follow Mushroom

Then he'd use his super extended batcat broom

To sweep up the crumbs and make him fall on the bloom

Of candyfloss bushes and marmalade ponds, I assume

-

Of course, the thing to remember is that Campbell is not a heroic batcat

But a very lazy grumpy old tabby cat dreaming of being a heroic batcat

And eats his cheese and drinks dandelion tea, can you imagine that?

He, Tarzan, Ollie and Mushroom are all best friends, and that's the end of that
