and I will trade you my old call sign,
swapped under starlight, hidden from parental eye.
I could not forget you if I tried, and believe
I have, again and again, but you
weaved into my mind, a melody
tickling my tongue, so I must
even if it can’t be you.
I remember tanned shoulders, broad,
a real man’s, yearned to trail my fingers
across, let my lips linger a little longer
dare I ponder what we would be come morning.
I remember fresh dew and apricot juice
and all the minute things whispered
when you thought I couldn’t hear you.
I repeat them, my secret prayer, and hope
you’re recalling them too.
but, if I cannot be you, then I will view
you on phone screens hidden under bedsheets
as moonbeams cascade through drapes,
hiding my sins from the day.
I'll ignore the dull abdomen ache,
the way my hands tremble and shake
as I picture a world constructed for us-
a palace made of nothing but stardust
and gleaming teenage dreams.
