Cake

Eating Poetry

I can’t bake cakes worthy of a celebration.

Where are all the rainbows Instgram promised me?

The hues are duller than the advertised poster.

These baking artists have absolute devotion.

We are told that cake is full of fat and sugar,

Some have creamy layers, fruits engraved with chocolate,

Some are simple, bread-based, or had crumbly layers.

Some sophisticated cakes even have liquor.

Supermarkets hosted caterpillar bake offs.

This is a passage of rite for the young children.

Cuthbert had worn the crown in pride for thirty years.

Colin, Clyde, Wiggles and Morris were quite well-scoffed.

And as they always say at the end of the day,

It does not matter that the cake is not gourmet.
