By candlelight

Ancient scholars

Scribed our histories

and cemented the past.

By candlelight

Paramours stole kisses

from forbidden loves

and intertwined their destinies.

By candlelight

the bravest souls

Set the foundation

For a better life.

By candlelight

humanity has survived disaster

singing songs of hope

as the flame dances.

By candlelight

our ancestors prayed through plague

that they’d wake the next morning

and begin life anew.

By candlelight

Royalty has feasted

while paupers shared

what bits of bread they had

and dreamt of something more.

By candlelight

we whisper intentions

and cast our spells,

Remembering all

who whispered by candlelight before us.
