Butterfly
She is a miracle growing up in this world
a butterfly about to spread her wings
about to show a waiting, everything
the beauty of her colors
~
She is a rainbow stretching across
a blue forever, painted in a sky above
a fairytale dream about to come true
a star shinning bright in a midnight sky
twinkling with the hope of our hearts
~
Alone in her room
she dances across the floor
keeping time with her own rhythm
she sings the lyrics to her own song
on a stage in front of a canopy bed
where a spotlight shines only for her
~
She’s been waiting her whole life
to be who she’s about to become
she’s grown tall in a garden of love
her petals blooming in the light
of a sun shining bright
~
She doesn't know the worry of
watching her go,
our little girl is leaving
our songbird is stretching her wings
about to leave the nest
~
Her father's stubborn girl
she's not afraid to be different
not afraid to take on what's
waiting outside her front door
not afraid to show the rebel
she's got living inside her
~
She's always said, life is a discovery
just waiting for the right Indiana Jones
to come along,
she's ready to be an explorer
ready to set out on her quest
ready to find the treasure
she's always known is waiting
out there for her
~
Her mother's best friend
her sister's partner in crime
she's smarter than anyone knows
she's not afraid to stand her ground
she learns from school
but doesn't let anyone
think for her
she's an honor roll student
a national merit scholar
a young woman
about to branch out
about to take her future
in her hands
~
She's got ideas as big as the moon,
she's an astronaut ready for lift off
her journey across the universe
starts now
~
She has new days ahead
new horizons to see
her future is an endless number
of possibilities waiting to be discovered
her dreams are sailing ships,
setting courses for strange waters
~
Who she is now
will grow into who she is then
in all her travels
wherever she goes, she will carry
our love, our hopes, our dreams
with her
~
She has her sights set
on the highest mountains
because in her heart she
already knows she can
conquer the world

On Winning and Losing

This was so beautiful Will! I love this poem dedicated to a very special young lady! Theres such a magical bond between a parent and their child, I feel that you've captured it beautifully! I imagine it's such a hard thing to see them growing up and ready to leave the nest, but also something so gratifying in knowing you helped build that human into they are! Knowing the world is a better place for the person you raised! Great work!
