Bury me under the conker tree

Where squirrels like to play

Bury me under the conker tree

Bury me here,

under the conker tree,

where shiny nuts fall with perfect aim,

and every now and then,

when you sit beneath its shade,

you’ll get a little conker on your head,

just to make sure you remember my name!

No need for fancy flowers,

they’re too delicate,

just give me the earth,

and the shade,

and the gentle reminder of a nut from above,

the nut you once loved!

And when you walk by,

with a smile so wide,

just know I’m up there,

with a mischievous pride!
