Just as quick as your existence materialized in the summer’s sun

my adolescence was infused with contentment.

Seeing your chest rise and fall against the gate,

was my cue to breathe again.

Sound returned when our breaths synced,

then I felt our hearts unify.

Each breath inspired me to move through time and space

from my heart being alchemized.

I experienced your embrace and felt the warmth of your protection

from decades yet to come.

I clung to my breathe, still unsure what was real or a dream.

Then a syncopated inhale assured me of your loyalty and devotion.

You blinked, I smiled, sending my adoration

to be buoyed by cherub cheeks.

You turned to talk to others, smiling.

A breeze past, my heart smiled knowing your smile is just for me.
