Breaking the Bonds

Chemistry Between Lovers

By Gerard DiLeoPublished 11 months ago Updated 11 months ago 1 min read
Outer Space Inner Space

My mind is a muck

Of molecular bonds and interconnections

Among neurons that constitute

Consortium of notions

Of you

***

Neurons firing together

Wiring together

Make itineraries for feeling

You

***

We-together

Are mapped out for me

Along gyri that fold inward

Like a map in a glove compartment of the car

On our roadtrip

***

Each skull creates a universe

And synapses fire in tandem

In the lovers' common universe

Where cosmic inflation reaches for asymptotes

***

Gray matter matters

When a walk through the sulci

Is a walk with you

Things that speak without saying

Things evident without encountering

Songs heard without hearing

***

Muscle memory misnomers

The rote that lovers live without thinking

Like the next song anticipated

In the four seconds of silence between tracks

Expectation ticks along

And interruptions do not set well

***

Away from you, insufferable abeyance

Anticipation unrequited

Raises tension that begs the relief

That completed synapses engender:

Relief of you

Relief of us

Relief of together

Failures of such destroy the third universe

Our universe

And emotional memories misfire into the void

On endless aimless journeys:

Void hurts.

The science lurking behind togetherness and desire is rendered wonderfully. I loved "Iced Coffee" too.
