(A set of four haiku)

water and blood birthed

a gulp of air and loud cry

violence starts life

never certainty

only change itself is sure

storm winds come and go

fire flood and plague

such a life we live and lead

what legacy lasts?

ashes to ashes

to earth and dust we return

what does it all mean?

[Author’s Note: I count ‘fire’ as two syllables as I pronounce it the same as ‘higher’. The three online syllable counters I’ve checked with count it the same way.]
