Bloom, Blossom, Grow

A Poem of Noticing the Garden

By Shanon Angermeyer NormanPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
Twisted Tree

The herb is strong like the dying coleus was last month.

The relentless rains beat the flower bushes and coleus into submission.

The poinsettias and sunflowers got stronger from the beating,

but the flooding puddles acted more like a mortician.

Nothing sexy about the sage or impatiens, they were in bloom.

But the purple queen has stretched herself as if reaching for the moon.

The spider is blossoming sprawled out like her legs are wide open,

the seeds have yet to sprout, but we are all still hoping.

The Banana trees are growing like a happy family together,

unbothered by the light or dark or stormy weather.

I wonder if the pumpkin seeds will sprout before the petunia --

or if I'll see the cosmos come to their colorful full bloom life?

I wonder if the dying coleus has a second wind for regrowth

like the repotted herb that grew strong regardless of the strife?

The pretty pink flower bushes and the wild daisies remain

the most consistent of the flirtacious and the vain.

I adore the way they spread so eagerly and giggle in the wind -

as if to mock humanity's attempts at forgetting original sin.
