Blood on the Hall of Mirrors

Poem by Lilian Wicca

Beckett, K. (2020, April 6). Marie Antoinette would be proud. The New York Times. Retrieved October 14, 2021, from https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/fashion/craftsmanship-queens-grove-marie-antoinette-versailles.html.

Mocked mirrored corridors,

pursue mother Marie’s calling,

drop your heart and count the trees,

a husband fell and muttered to thee,

Marie… Marie.

Strip the emerald, sapphire and ruby,

view the clouds, what do you see?

fleeing of crows, flags that roll,

divine intentions to kill the soul,

susurrations of the emperor,

Marie….Marie.

Set the stage on plywood boards,

silence is the jury in robins wake,

eyes of blue, sharp with fate,

speak through breath, the last few left,

“You took my love, my life and and now I’ll be dead”,

Vacant Versailles in a plague of velvet,

jewels for souls in a society set,

a youth in a crown they easily take,

they wrote in the books “Let them eat cake”.
