To break free from rock bottom

You must first look up

Call the mountains down to meet you

Raise your screams from the mud.

Ready yourself for a painful transformation,

Embark on an ascension drenched in blood.

Steady your spine for the modification

Lever your ribs right apart

Open up the cage to expose the cavity

Haul your bony wings from your heart.

Bring your lungs out to greet them

- Hold the air until it stings -

Splutter through years of mutation, recombination and variation,

To evolve into a pulmonary fledgling.

Branching out to touch tomorrow

An eagle eager to launch into the above,

So take a bloodied leap into the sky

And stem your open wounds with love.
