Black Water Prayer

Out of darkness may daylight follow Amen

Black Water Prayer

Knees press into ground that cannot be seen,

weight carried without knowing where it rests,

eyes lifted toward a sky that holds its silence,

giving nothing, taking everything offered.

A prayer forms without shape or sound,

not spoken, not heard, yet deeply felt,

drawn from a place worn thin by waiting,

held together by something close to breaking.

Faith flickers like a distant light,

barely steady against the rising dark,

threatened by every shifting shadow,

yet refusing to disappear completely.

Waves build with slow and certain force,

each one heavier than the last,

pulling doubt through the body,

dragging it down into deeper waters.

Hands open with nothing left to give,

no strength to bargain, no words to offer,

just a quiet need for stillness,

in a world that rarely allows it.

A presence moves where sight cannot reach,

not loud, not sudden, not demanding,

just there in the hollow spaces,

where fear once held its ground.

Light touches the surface for a moment,

thin, fragile, almost imagined,

yet enough to shift something within,

enough to remind the soul to endure.

Calm does not stay, it never does,

storms return as they always have,

still something has changed beneath it all,

a strength that no longer needs to shout.
