Black Lives Matter: A Poem

A poem written in response to the current movement and the murder of George Floyd

Imagine having to fight for your right

to be.

As if asked to be born in a world

fixated on white supremacy;

trying to convince you that you're free

whilst treating you like a nobody.

How far have we really come from

acts like lynching? So Beastly.

You seemed so carefree when you

had them hanging from tree to tree.

Yet you call them un-American

for taking a knee.

How can it be a reality that a

black person may only live in your world

as either a deportee or detainee?

Never an American,

just a wannabe.

This is not a poem,

this is a real-life commentary.
