“No, I’m fine. I promise I’m fine.”
”It’s just an off day.”
“I normally don’t act like this.”
“No I swear I don’t mind.”
My stomach churning, pre-recorded replies after the boiling point. The moment I make the wrong dance move, the moment I simply cannot fake it.It seems like something we all loathe about society, yet cannot escape. We are zoo animals in our concrete prisons. The only lens into our cages being the screens in our pockets.
The difference is that zoo animals can’t hide their nature, even from behind the glass wall.
We always can. It’s the way we were taught.
Until the glass cracks. It’s the way we were taught.
The words we say, the lies we tell,
To keep up appearances, to sell,
An image of ourselves.
