Big Ask

A Sonnet

Rare and precious is the one born to lead

Mediocre bosses, over their heads

Are as common as memos we don’t read

The sleep we lose softly feathers their beds

The fool who wants to parent grown adults

The one who cares what costs but not who earns

The glutton for your promising results

Who cannot stomach your private concerns

The one who, knowing something, knows it all

Who laughs at your expense when days betray

To denigrate small triumphs, they’ve the gall

About small problems, they have much to say

A boss should by the laborers be made

Insincere smiles are very quick to fade

Sonnet

Enjoyed it in a different way.

  • This was so relatable! I think the power gets ro their heads and they behave like heartless monsters to employees. Loved your poem

I would say we've all worked for some of these characters at one time or another. I know I have.

“The glutton for your promising results Who cannot stomach your private concerns” Hits WAY hard. So many bosses leave their humanity at the door for the sake of money and the imminent need to micro manage. Poignant poem here!!
