Beneath the Smile

A Mother's Journey with Depression, a poem.

In the heart of suburbia, where picket fences gleam,

Lies a house where shadows dance, unseen by the sunbeam.

Within its walls dwells a mother with burdens to bear,

A silent storm raged beneath her composed air.

Her days unfold like pages in a book,

Each one was marked by a heavyweight, a silent crook.

With a smile upon her lips, she tends to daily chores,

While inside, a tempest rages, unseen by all outdoors.

She cooks and cleans with practiced grace,

Yet, within her soul, there's an empty space.

Her laughter rings hollow, her eyes betray the strain,

For beneath her facade lies a world filled with pain.

In the stillness of the night, when all is calm and quiet,

She battles her demons with a resolute will.

Each breath is a struggle, each step a heavy load,

As she navigates the darkness of her own untrodden road.

Yet, amidst the chaos, there's a flicker of light,

A spark of hope that burns through the night.

For she's a warrior, brave and true,

And though she battles demons, she knows what she must do.

She rises each morning with strength anew,

Facing the day with a true heart.

For she's not defined by her struggles or strife,

But by the love that she gives and the beauty of her life.

So, though she may falter and sometimes fall,

She'll rise again, standing proud and tall.

For she's a functioning depressive, yes, it's true,

But she's also a mother, and that's what sees her through.
