It was the Lunar New Year
When he placed this ornament
No purpose, just to be there,
Only to be colorful and generate sound.
But boy does it sound nice,
Like the chiming of a silver bell,
Ding
Ding Ding
Ding Ding Ding.
The fishes attached starts to swim
As if they are in their waters.
As the door swings from side to side.

Then the door is still,
The fishes back to their lifeless forms.
The bells stop generating sound.
Just an ornament, no purpose.
Yet that was all that matters.
Watching him coming back home every day,
The sound of silver chime makes my day,
Seeing the life back in those fishes
Really makes my worries go away.
Even if it lasts a single second
Out of 86,400 others,
It will always be a moment that
I treasure forever.

Then one day,
The ornament sounds again.
I came to observe
As it rings for the final time
For the day.
Yet the fishes were not dancing like they used to.
The bells were not ringing like they used to.
There was something else.
It was a slam and a click,
Then silence beyond the door.
The bells never rang again.
The fishes never swam again.
He never came out again.
I would play with the ornament myself,
Yet it will never produce the same silver chime.
The chime
That brings reason to this life.
