Belle and Trumpet

“and maiden virtue rudely strumpeted.”

It's not that she was pure of heart

and as such was crudely broken.

Nor was it she played no part

in how rudely she was woken.

.

It wasn't that her heart had died

through some lover's cruel neglect.

Rarely were her thoughts applied

to a life of such respect.

.

This maiden in a sense secured

her self-imposed displacement.

With ravenous greed she so procured

a deal that bought debasement.

.

And so the warning bell was trumpeted

“and maiden virtue rudely strumpeted.”

.

About the Creator

Tim Grace

A first impression has a lasting effect - it makes a notable difference. In a subtle way that’s who I am as a poet. A ‘first impression’ looking for the gentle ‘twist’ that draws attention to a novel observation.
