Behind Bars

Unfortunate

"Nancy Grace Behind Bars" aired on HLN

I write to inmates to make them feel less alone

They are trapped in a "box" screaming in the inside of their body

They want out

Some have not done the crime they were charged with

Some are guilty

Some are innocent

They do what they can to feel alive

Inmates are usually forgotten once they are put inside the prison "box"

This prison system was made for justice

Sometimes it becomes injustice

It hurts them and us

We need to change this

The change has started, let's keep changing to grow

It hurts the ones on the inside

And the ones on the outside

It hurts people not even involved

Do people know about the crime that a cellmate did?

No or Yes

Does it matter?

Do people understand why or how?

Do people know about the PIC and how it works?

What is the PIC?

Prison Industrial Complex

But, there's more to it!

Mass incarceration

Taxes

Why do we have the drug laws?

Why do we have so many arrests?

Race, Color, Culture, Poor, Gender

For-Profit?

Can we help the incarcerated by protesting and writing the government?

Free the innocent

Help the guilty

Help the guilty become reformed

Reformation through classes or therapy

Prison system is for Reformation not for Degradation

Classes

Group Classes

Family Therapy

Is this enough to help the incarcerated.

Help the incarcerated

We should pick up a pen and write

Use the American tax dollars for reformation instead of building more prisons

We need more help for the inmates and for those coming out of prison.

Decrease the recidivism rate we have in America

Help with Inmates with their families

Inmates need to spend more time with their families than in their cells

Cell mates need more classes and help

Inmates need more time family and friends

They need better food

They need more rehabilitation

Inmates need more outside time

The government needs to stop making money off each arrest

The government needs to stop accepting donations from companies for their criminal justice system

Why?

Because it has expanded and has gotten so big that it has taken over to justify arresting people just to make money

People's lives are being damaged

People's lives are being affected on the inside and outside of jail/prison bars

Inmates need classes for rehabilitation to be released

Prisons need to make sure all inmates are rehabilitated not institutionalized

Can they help inmates from getting institutionalized?

Help them read and write

Help them get their GED and/or College Degree

Give them some chances that they can get outside and improvement for if they get out

Stop so many arrests, so the inmates are not packed in the prisons

How do we stop the riots, fights, and drugs inside?

Prison overcrowding could stop

Prison food could be better too

Security check points for inmates and guards for contraband needs to be better

The correction officers and all facility workers are needed within the prison

We do need our prisons for inmates but we need them better

We need better living conditions and better prisons

This goes for the inmates and for the guards

The Justice System can hire more guards and correctional officers

This will allow the correctional officers more breaks

This will be less strain on each of the workers

This will be better for the guards and for inmates

Workers do not need to be over worked

Longer sentences for drug charges

Solitary Confinement

Reduce the sentences to minimum would help

Inmates work for almost nothing in pay

What they do for work, should be put towards their sentence

Inmate's work should be paid more toward their commissary

Inmates should get paid more

Inmates shouldn't be sentenced over 20 years

No Solitary Confinement

Inmates are people not animals

More therapy classes

The therapy classes should go towards the inmate's sentence or commissary

I know this may seem like a lot of my beliefs and opinions. It comes from a deep place in my heart and experience. I think if we all haven't experienced this, we can step back and know from a human's point of view.
