Beginning With You and I

Lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 6 days ago • 2 min read

[Verse 1]
Task: Now I've gone for too long
Living like I'm not alive
So I'm going to start over tonight
Beginning with you and I
[Verse 2]
I kept your old key by the window
Though the lock was changed last spring
And every morning made a promise
That I never let take wing
You found me counting all the chances
Like loose change inside a jar
Then you said, “Come on, let's leave here
We don't have to know how far”
[Pre-Chorus]
There's a road past the water tower
Where the county line bends wide
If you'll take my hand, I'll take the first step
And let the past ride behind
[Chorus]
Now I've gone for too long
Living like I'm not alive
So I'm going to start over tonight
Beginning with you and I
Let the porch light find us laughing
Let the morning see us try
I don't need a perfect reason
Just your hand in mine tonight
[Verse 3]
We'll stop for coffee near the courthouse
Take the long way through the pines
You can tell me what you dreamed of
I'll tell you what I left behind
No big speech beneath the stars here
No grand vow we can't defend
Just the quiet kind of choosing
To begin again, again
[Pre-Chorus]
There's a road past the water tower
And the fields are turning gold
If you'll take my hand, I'll take the first step
We can make a home from hope
[Chorus]
Now I've gone for too long
Living like I'm not alive
So I'm going to start over tonight
Beginning with you and I
Let the porch light find us laughing
Let the morning see us try
I don't need a perfect reason
Just your hand in mine tonight
[Bridge]
Maybe healing isn't sudden
Maybe brave is small and slow
It's a suitcase by the doorway
And a place we choose to go
When the old fear calls my name out
I'll remember what is true
Every road can turn to somewhere
When I walk it next to you
[Final Chorus]
Now I've gone for too long
Living like I'm not alive
So I'm going to start over tonight
Beginning with you and I
Let the porch light find us laughing
Let the morning see us try
I don't need a perfect reason
Just your hand in mine tonight
[Outro]
Beginning with you and I
One first step, then one more mile
