A Poem

I cry for the you of the past,
the beginning that didn’t last.

The you between what you became and now.

But somehow,
I know nothing will ever be the same.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the one to blame.
I rushed this.
I flew right in
and forced you to sweep me off my feet.

Let you treat me the way that you do,
the way that you did.

Unsure when to put a lid on this
and call it done.

Wondering if you were ever really the one
as this love affair flounders and dies.

Are we both living a lie?
