Because They're Lost

but never leave us.

By Laura JanePublished 5 months ago 1 min read
In many ways, they're there.

Why the robin lands just close enough and stays longer than it should.

Why the white feather floats down nearby, with no birds overhead.

Why a particular flower can brighten a day in someone's favourite colours.

Why that tune might play unexpectedly and suddenly holds dozens of your moments.

Why a familiar expression from an unknowing face reveals your resemblance.

Why the quick notes of a voice can bring back a whole conversation we once had.

Why taking in the view of a favourite place somehow allows me to meet you there.

Why and absent-minded touch to a piece of jewellery flashes the feel of you.

Why standing before your name, carved in marble brings it all - the loss of you.

Why the cross holds all of this - or tries to.

Because they're lost to us-

but never leave us.
