Beach Day

a poem

Loud speaker crackled carnival music,

sea bird calls, and salty sweet tang

on the air

bright pink and white candy shop

sign, sun behind

a thin layer of cloud-cover over

sky blue and a

drunken arm threaded through

mine, sun-warmed toes

and glittering salt water brushed

book pages fluttering with the

sea breeze

brined lips and watered

down iced coffee in

sand dusted sweating plastic cup

pervasive dueling feelings of damp

and dry, the tickling

barely concious urge to cry

at the horizon line

pearl topped waves cresting

heat shimmer distorted

people dotted down the way

the reminder of what sunshine smells like

and the sound of Summer
