The tale began 20 years ago,

Slowly weaving its way through time.

The birth of someone of inconsequence

Led to unspeakable crime.

*

It all happened in the deep south,

In a place mostly traveled by canoe,

Where people sometimes lose their way,

Among the reeds of a swampy bayou.

*

The victim was a self-made man

Who loved his adventurous life.

And since he wandered far and wide,

He chose to leave his wife.

*

The villain of our story grew up

With keen instincts of survival.

Mistreated by those who were to protect,

Their deaths would be his revival.

*

The men met at a local bar

And hit it off straight away.

They touched, and kissed, and played around,

Though neither had previously been gay.

*

But our antagonist couldn’t handle love,

And even though they boated the bayou as brothers,

He threw his new friend to the gators,

A fate like so many others.

*

No one knew what he had done,

And no one ever would.

All because of the crippled past,

Of his sad, broken childhood.
