Walking in the dark
holding hands with a mother
Going to a small town where we know
She disappeared, taken in the faint light
Then they came at me with fits and strength
Trying to hold me with a grip of the palm
I escaped, I spit in his face.
Wandering passing through a corridor
Filled with lines of men
A glance and a nod to a stranger or a father
Fear, the loss the terror of the battle
Then the dreaded letter arrived.
Addressed to a brother.
I opening it and it said he had been drafted
He went to fight in the war
Would I ever see him again
I love you, See you soon.
