Baby Bell

You belong

Baby Bell, your song is swelling deep inside our hearts. You twist and turn around lavish streets of gold and soar through the burrows in the wood. Dancing gently on the simple breeze, we watch you grow louder… taller… bolder and stronger.

Giants are no match for you. You just lull them to a cozy slumber with a blink of your perfect eyes. Step back world for our Baby Bell is beating the drum toward a future, grand and bright.

Waltz down through the dark wood sweet Baby Bell! Have no fear for the things that can scare you are distant and you are brave. Our brave little one. You’ll say there’s nothing to hurt me and climb up the tallest tree. Seeing out over this world and it’s majesty you’ll be comfortable. The heights don’t make you small.

You’ll encounter a river and dip your toes in it. Place both feet in and let the current flail as you become a pillar. A pillar of hope in the racing waters. The pride in your eye and the song of your heart prancing around the water wherever your gaze focuses.

Ring on, Baby Bell, you’re not just a distant song. The tune you produce is courageous and long. Nothing you’ll do will ever seem wrong, even when you don’t know the way.

Lost in the meadows with no one around you. Scared and a bit lonesome, your song fading out. Keeping your chin up, the brave one you are, is what makes this journey the best one so far! Push. Push. Push on through the walk and keep going and going. One leg after the other. One foot in front of another. Tired is the song in your heart. Tired is the word on your lips. Slipping further and further, but the journey isn’t over. Your little mind is reeling from the past and you don’t think you can last much longer…

You may fall or lose the resonance. Like a fairy lost in the underbrush, but that’s okay. We are here to ring you back into life. Gong! Gong! Bang! Boom! We beat the rhythm through your heart, shower you in hugs and kisses. You’re never alone sweet Baby Bell. You belong. Stand tall once again and ring out loud and clear to the world! Let them hear you! Shout from the roof that song in your heart, sweet Baby Bell don’t let sadness keep the tune from your heart. Brilliant and magnificent things are still coming to you. From the clouds to the seas, the whole world is pining for you.

The sun rises to you and begins to fall to its knees. You rise up in the morning with the squirrels at your feet to do your bidding. The song birds too will stand by your side every day. A chorus or a symphony will play in your honor as you sing out the melody of life to the choir. You’re no cannon fodder to the bellowing sounds of life. You’re our special child. Sweet Baby Bell and you belong.

Cozy and nestled, snug under the covers. You tell us a story and you whisper ‘I love you’ as the lights turn down. One last song and it’s off to your slumber, but the world doesn’t turn away from you just because you are sleeping. No, your presence grows stronger and abundant. Because the giants are under your masterful control and the squirrels and the songbirds that sang from before are standing by your door waiting until you wake to sing once more. The world is your stage and the song lingers on. Bells keep ringing long after the song is done.

I chose to write my own kind of story for bedtime. I like to call my partner Baby Bell and one day if we have children, they will be our baby bell. I never had a good bedtime story when I was younger (or at least one I remember vividly) so I figured this is the next best thing. It’s not perfect, but for the sake of what it is, bells ring on for a very long time. The sound travels through and does amazing things for some or most who hear them. My child (boy or girl) deserves to know they are going to ring that strongly in the world. Even if they happen to lose that ring, their mom and I will strike up the tune again.
