What is this emptiness

that I feel,

knowing you are no longer here?

Emptiness

where my heart once was.

Nothing can ever replace

what you meant to me.

I’ve lost touch with reality,

barely functioning through the day.

Knowing not what to do

or where to go.

Wishing it was all

a bad dream.

In time,

the feelings will vanish

and I will overcome

the sadness I feel.

A shock I never imagined

will be a distant memory.

Author’s Note: The dream that inspired this poem was one I had that involved an ex-best guy friend who I really cared for at one point in my life. The poem is about when you have someone special in your life, it can be about anyone, who you thought would always be there but then one day they are no longer around.
