Russet, red, orange, and gold

Waving gently in the wind

Swirling and dancing

To the music of their own making

*

Laying in piles

Heaped up in drifts

Crunching underfoot

Rustling and whispering in the breeze

*

Children jumping into mounds.

Adults raking up for collection

Into big black trash bags for mulch

Some just burn where they lay

*

Russet, red, orange, and gold

Fluttering in the breeze

Waltzing on an invisible zephyr

With a beat all their own

Russet, red, orange, and gold

Harvest time and Halloween

Crisp, cool Autumn nights

Smells pervade the air.

Halloween and Harvest time

Apple and pumpkin

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
