Afraid of the next step

The pain I feel, the cruelty I see

All go away when you’re close to me

Though it may seem crazy, or even wrong

But these feelings I have for you are so strong

I cannot explain why I feel like I do

I can only say that there’s something about you

Something that strikes me and holds me so near

It’s like stained glass clear yet, unclear

Though how I feel deep inside, you may never know

For these are the things I just cannot show

I can’t ask you to tell me if you feel the same

Too afraid of the answers, my self-doubt is to blame

So, I’ll sit here and wonder how deeply you feel

About love and attraction with a heartache that’s too real.
