Atrament

I dived in between the lines, seeking somewhere in the sea of ink

My lungs filled out, I slipped under and began to sink

I was willing to get drowned.

Now the air tastes too light, like a lack.

A gasp, a cough - my mouth is sprayed black.

Convinced that you'd drown without me,

I went, not knowing how to swim

While you knew better, had your own ways

To not snap a pen filled to the brim.

I resented you for losing my breath, an unwashable stain

But deep in my core, I heard a voice - might have been yours - say:

"Who asked you to? I cared for you. I didn't want your pain."
