A Poem

Is there a soft spot

in your mind?

That thought you avoid

Because it makes you

feel

Something gentle

Or

kind?

How could it be bad

To feel soft?

Feel held?

It's not.

Until

You let it rule

Infiltrate.

Yes.

You

are

my

Reminder.

The gentle Rose's

thorn

that keeps me

Limping on.

My reminder

To watch,

to pray

Because enemy fire

Sometimes smells

Like scented

candle's

flame

The

wool

over

my eyes

Is silky...

The battle cry

Harmonious— siren song.

My armor

falls

like

A nightgown

Around my feet

And I don't feel

Defeated

On my knees

I'm being stabbed

softly

Quietly

Gently drowned

By m e m o r y

I hear God calling... finding me

I'm naked. Bleeding.

A nod.

"I see."

He picks me up and tends my wounds.

"My little lamb..."

He holds me close.

"Astray so soon."
