Ashes to Dust
Ashes to dust they whisper
As another candle dies
Smoke curling toward heaven
Like unanswered goodbyes
The church bells keep on ringing
Mourners dressed in black
Trying hard to accept
Someone isn’t coming back
Life disappears so quickly
One breath then it’s gone
Leaving empty chairs waiting
For faces once upon
I watched them lower coffins
Into the waiting earth
Wondering why some people
Never realise their worth
We spend years chasing nothing
Fighting wars inside
While time keeps moving onward
Like an unforgiving tide
The photographs grow faded
Names wear away with rain
Still love remains like echoes
Inside the deepest pain
Ashes to dust forever
That’s how the story ends
Kings and queens become memories
Enemies become friends
So hold the ones beside you
Before the moment slips
Because all we truly leave here
Are names upon our lips
