As Death Drew Near
As death drew near, the room stood still,
No whispered breeze, no window’s sigh.
The world itself seemed holding breath,
Beneath a quiet, grieving sky.
His hands were worn by years of love,
By honest work and burdens borne.
The strength I’d always known in him
Now rested, fragile, tired, and worn.
Then, without a single word,
Two tears rolled slowly down his face.
They carried all he could not say,
With silent sorrow, silent grace.
Were they for those he’d leave behind?
For dreams he’d held throughout the years?
Or simply love too deep for words,
Released at last in those two tears.
I held his hand and wished that time
Would stop before it slipped away.
But even love cannot command
The setting of life’s final day.
Yet those two tears remain with me,
More precious than the rarest stone.
A father’s love in crystal drops—
A language spoken without tone.
Though heaven called and he was gone,
His love did not depart that day.
It lives within my beating heart,
And there it always will remain.
For every time I think of him,
I see those tears, so clear, so true.
Not tears of weakness… but of love,
A final gift he never knew.
In loving memory of my Dad. ❤️
