april haiku
the beginnings of a haiku habit; april 2023

haiku each day now
it started a while ago
but now a habit
. .
so these are april's
a diary in haiku
i hope you enjoy
. . .
. . .
i sit on a couch
i write down thoughts every day
i think it feels good
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
the birds are chirping
the man sweeps leaves from the ground
it is sunday morn'
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
the squirrels on the bluff!
i couldn't believe how free,
we are in their spot
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
life is quite silly
we're really just here to be
there are no real rules
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
the house is quiet
i think it's so nice this way
i just sit to hear
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
the leaves are so green
the ones that are not dead yet
i hope no dead trees
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
[a lune]
i saw him
just like he was here
then he left
. . . [4/23/23]
. . .
i sit here and wait
i want to be a good girl
but sometimes i can't
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
the birds are chirping
that is what they always do
it sure seems easy
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
a guy quit drinking
i saw it on instragram
it resonated
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
me and haze, thirteen
we have been great together
i love him fully
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
the trees are so full
green and brown and beautiful
oh to be a tree
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
i am sitting here
i can hear everything here
i am sitting here
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
people love dogs more
i see way more dogs than cats
more cats are inside
. . . [4/24/23]
. . .
i open up both
i can hear the fan of one
i won't last very long
. . . [4/24/23 -- ode to my laptops, old and new]
. . .
will sleep now we will
cud'ling ev'ry night so well
best place in the world
. . . [4/25/23]
. . .
listen to the wind
it will tell you all you need
and then you go on
. . . [4/26/23]
. . .
i used to work clay
and sometimes i still want to
but i haven't yet
. . . [4/26/23]
. . .
the fork in the soup
a spoon can't cut this sausage
i've placed them wrongly
. . . [4/26/23]
. . .
will you dance with me
she has never said out loud
but today she might
. . . [4/26/23]
. . .
i will scream so loud
everyone will stop and cry
i will scream so loud
. . . [4/26/23]
. . .
lost in today now
the kettle is a-boiling
i'll make a second
. . . [4/27/23]
. . .
the fog is so thick
it's so very good up here
a porch would be nice
. . . [4/27/23]
. . .
windows and the fog
birds and squirrels come all day long
yep, it's pretty great
. . . [4/27/23]
. . .
to sit or to sing
or to do both is good too
you don't have to choose
. . . [4/29/23]
. . .
we go out to eat
we chat and have fun, always
i love him so much
. . . [4/29/23]
. . .
no april 30 to be found - perhaps i missed a day
. . .
. . .
this habit has been lovely. i started many months ago when i saw a contest from this here vocal media and it hit me right away as a fun thing to do, but back then i just wrote a few and then stopped as you do. then a student i worked with spoke about loving writing poetry and i asked if he knew of haiku and limericks which he did not so i told him and wrote down the "rules"; from that day i have been writing haiku and it has been a pleasure - a really lovely new addition to this time of living.
