Apologies

I owe you an apology, one I can't directly give

because I moved too fast when I knew better,

I offered a love I could not maintain,

I spent nights crying over someone else, told you all about it,

and I let you try to heal my pain.

I laid out shoes you couldn't fill,

hopes, dreams, desires still attached to someone long gone,

and I blamed you for not fitting into them.

I played pretend, let you picture a future I would never be in,

and I tore my way out of it slowly at the end,

didn't even care to make it easy, rip the band-aid off quick.
