Anything But This

Silence hurts the heart and mind

Anything But This

I can take the storms, the thunder,

I can take the heartbreak and the rain,

Not this quiet that drowns in comfort,

This stillness soft with empty pain.

The days roll by like tired pages,

The air is stale, the light unkind,

I crave the rush of something reckless,

To wake the fire in my mind.

Let chaos come, let voices tremble,

Let laughter fill the hollow rooms,

I’d rather break beneath the madness,

Than fade away in silent gloom.

There was a time I burned for meaning,

I chased the world with open arms,

Now peace feels heavy, dull, deceiving,

A sweetness robbed of all its charms.

Give me nights of wild confusion,

Give me tears that sting and heal,

I want the world in all its fury,

I want to hurt, to live, to feel.

For anything but this slow sinking,

This quiet death of thought and fire,

I’d trade the calm, the safe, the certain,

For one lost spark of pure desire.

And if it breaks me, let it shatter,

I’ll gather dust and start anew,

For life was never meant for waiting,

it’s burning bright in all we do.
