A Poem

I was your angel, your gift from the heavens.

You gave me my name, picked from someone who lived before me. I carry their spirit, one that I have never known.

With gifts, there aren’t supposed to be conditions linked to them,

but not with me.

My existence wasn’t a gift enough, but everything I could do,

everything I could ever provide.

My love was never enough. Blood meant nothing to you, just the glory of knowing what I was capable of.

The blood of my enemies has always tasted sweet,

but this drink shouldn’t be coming from my own blood.

I renounce the name you gave me, I chose my new one well.

I hope you live with the reminder that I am no longer your angel.

I am my own, with ease,

Angel Adagio.
