An Orange Comfort
How I soothe myself in the winter
deep in october with pumpkins and candles
sweet potato mash in the evening, butternut squash
soup with swoops of balsamic vinegar, with a fireplace
and hot toddies, jollof rice and a smoothie,
with tangerines and with pumpkin pie,
with orange wine and an early sunset
with a berocca, juice and a modern penguin classic;
it makes me think of marigold petals in COCO
and the cover of Stevie Wonders ‘Songs In The Key of Life’,
and the knocking of my feet and the boredom
of autumn leaves, and the long walks
and there has never been more comfort
than the heat of You on an autumn day.
