An Ode to Seaglass

Butterflies of The Sea

Did you know

When you walk the shore

the footprints that you make

step on secrets and transformations

hidden by the ocean's wake?

Discarded, thrown away

Tossed into the sea

Seen as useless and broken

Yet tumbled within the sea's embrace

reveals a beauty unspoken.

Frosted beauties

Mermaid tears

Hard edges worn away

Abrasion smoothing jagged points

Loved by the ocean sway.

Sharp-eyed magpies

Spot these gems

As they comb the beach and measure

White, Green, Brown, Yellow, Blue, Pink

A rainbow in any weather.

One man's trash

Now one man's treasure

With a child's delight, I see

Colours spilling from my fingers

The butterflies of the Sea.
