An Homage To Ourselves

- Daring to be unique, Daring to be me

Doesn’t it seem odd how easy it is to not do? To not be?

As if we are somehow senseless?

Regrettably, we fill ourselves with the couldn’t’s, wouldn’t’s, and shouldn’t’s,

Ignoring the fact that we can and if we would, then we absolutely should.

No small task to reverse, and yet it is the small tasks that do it.

Guts, practice, and a bit of audacity, is what we need.

The thing about being human is that we experience, and we feel.

Once our sensory part of the brain kicks in, that is it. We are done for.

But it is because of our senses that we are able to do, and able to be.

Even the smallest receptors create knowledge for us.

Understanding ourselves and our surroundings, however, isn’t even half the battle.

Next, we have to understand how we want to participate within our world, and

In that, will we start to realise ourselves.

Queens and Kings; this is also where we start our fall.

Under the scrutinising eyes of no one but our own,

Every day we find it is so easy to just conform.

Do the right thing, they say. Do what’s been done before, what’s expected.

Arguably an easier path, yes, but easier for whom?

Remember; light doesn’t get stopped by an obstacle in its path,

It shapes the obstacle and gives it distinction.

Neither will time, no matter how much given, wither light’s course.

Granted, it’s one thing to say it, and another to actually do it.

To that I say; practice.

Over, and over, and over again, until the small tasks start to add up.

Because it is in those minuscule moments where we find our courage to be and

Everyday life suddenly becomes an illuminating pleasure.

Maybe if we try with a few more can’s, will’s and should’s,

Eventually we will find ourselves in a world full of shining spectra.
