Am Still Here

I’ve walked through storms that left me cold,
I’ve carried stories never told,
I’ve known the nights that wouldn’t end,
And wondered where I’d find a friend.

I’ve watched some people come and go,
I’ve learned the things I needed to know,
I’ve held onto a little light,
And carried it through every night.

There were times I nearly lost my way,
But somehow found another day,
A tiny spark, a little flame,
Reminding me I’m still the same.

I’ve cried for things I couldn’t change,
For love that somehow felt so strange,
For dreams that disappeared from view,
And wondered what tomorrow knew.

But time has taught me how to stand,
To hold my future in my hand,
To stop explaining who I am,
And stop apologising for my plans.

I don’t need everyone to stay,
Some people simply walk away,
And though it hurts to watch them go,
Their leaving doesn’t make me low.

I’ve found that peace can come at last,
When you stop living in the past,
And start to see the world anew,
With all the things still left to do.

I have my laughter, I have tears,
I have my memories and years,
I’ve got a heart that still can feel,
And that alone tells me I’m real.

So let the past remain behind,
I’ll take the lessons, leave the bind,
I’ll walk ahead beneath the sun,
And see what life has yet to come.

For after everything I’ve seen,
There’s still a woman here within,
She’s bruised by life but standing tall,
And she is still here through it all.
